Guilin Electrical Equipment Scientific Research Institute Co., Ltd. (GLESI) , with its predecessor as Electrical Equipment Scientific Research Institute of No. 1 Ministry of Machinery Industry, was founded in Beijing in 1954 and relocated in Guilin in 1970. It was transformed into a scientific and technological enterprise in 1999, and now is subordinated to China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd (SINOMACH). Since its establishment, GLESI has undertaken many national, provincial/ministerial and local-level research projects and obtained over 900 scientific achievements, with more than 140 of them awarded national, provincial/ministerial Science & Technology Progress Awards. GLESI has been making significant contributions to the development of the mechanical and electrical equipment industries of China.
